Press Release

Release Date: August 30, 2023
by Chickasaw Nation Media Relations Office

Dry, hot and windy weather patterns have resulted in dangerous fire conditions across much of Oklahoma. Chickasaw Nation Emergency Management (CNEM) has issued a burn ban for those portions of the Chickasaw Nation located within Garvin, Coal, Jefferson, Love and Marshall counties.

While this emergency declaration is in effect, it is unlawful to conduct unapproved outdoor burning, including such activities as campfires, bonfires, brush clearing and household trash burning.

Burn bans issued by CNEM (see map below) coincide with and reinforce burn bans issued by other county, state and federal agencies.

Residents are reminded to verify the status of burn bans in their location before conducting any outdoor burning and exercise extreme caution while conducting approved burning.

For details about the status of any burn ban within the Chickasaw Nation, contact CNEM at (580) 235-0599.
